Shock occurs when something happens unexpectedly.
You may have no control over the events or have a good level of control over the situation at the time.
It may be later on that a person who has experienced something upsetting they may start to feel anxiety and stress. This is sometimes known as delayed shock.
This can be made worse be people implying that they could have coped with the situation. It should be noted that these people usually did not actually experience what happened. This may result in a feeling that you are guilty for not doing what they imply you should have.
For some people the feelings may persist and last a long time causing a long term stress problem that may become hidden from the person because it may become buried deep in their subconscious memory.
This is quite normal because of the fear of reliving the traumatic event in the conscious memory.
This may result in anxiety, stress and phobias.
