General
Practitioner: Your General Practitioner, usually doctors have a better understanding
of issues of this type now and they hopefully will be able to
direct you to the service you require.
It should be noted that the service may be very poor to very good depending on budgets and how the General Practitioner perceives your problem.
They may have very limited time to gain an understanding of the situation. The level of service may depend on where you live.
Self Help Groups: Some of these may again be very helpful or very poor depending on budgets and how they perceives your problem. If you are able to attend a self help group about your problem it is more likely that they understand the issues that effect you because they too have experienced the problems involved.
Some Self Help Groups may be able to put pressure on the poor services that do exist and bring about improvements in treatments.
The level of service may depend on where you live.

PALS is a key driver of public and patient involvement in the NHS. Officers from PALS are available in all hospitals. They offer confidential advice, support and information on health-related matters to patients, their families and their carers.
If you have a worry about your care or treatment, speak to a member of the PALS team and they will try to resolve the situation. If they are unable to help, they will explain the formal NHS complaints procedure to you and put you in touch with the right people to speak to.
