Feeling guilty ?

Compare Bargains on Guilt

Judge Image You may feel guilty, (have feelings of guilt), because of something you've done wrong, although this does not necessary mean you have committed a crime.

You may also feel guilty after you have experience or witnessed something unpleasant.

This may occur even if you helped more than others.

You may feel like you could have done more to help.

This can be made worse by others who may tell you how well they would have dealt with the situation.

It should be noted that these people usually did not actually experience what happened.

Images on television portray a distorted view of what happens in such situations to real people. After all, actors have a chance to rehearse such scenes and the editor can cut out any mistakes made.

In so called documentaries you will get to see how well trained professionals react in difficult situations. These trained professionals usually have a good level of support and have practised how to react to such situations in a controlled environment. They also gain experience by daily coping with people during traumatic events.

Sometimes even professionals require help to overcome traumatic events.

For some people the feelings may persist and last a long time causing anxiety, stress and phobia problems that may become buried deep in their subconscious memory.

Guilt may also occur because as a child the person may have been lead to believe that it was acceptable to take certain actions which as an adult they realise are wrong.

A person may feel guilty because they feel to blame for what may have occurred. Even when they where too young at the time to have any real control over the events. For example this may occur because of family breakdown especially if violence was involved. They may feel guilt for not having prevented what occurred even though this was outside their control.

Guilt is one of the most self destructive feelings. That is guilt may result in any of the neurosis of anxiety, stress and phobias.
