A link between anxiety and depression ?

Anxiety and stress result in a faster metabolic rate, faster heart beat, higher sugar energy burn, etc.

See The Effects of Stress on the Body

Once these symptoms reduce the body and mind may feel lathery and tired.  These feeling may result in a feeling of depression and hopelessness.

These feelings can have a knock on effect because you feel tired and don't want to do anything you may feel lazy or even be accused of being lazy.  This can result in feelings of guilt because you feel or are tool your are lazy, bone ideal, and need to "pull your self together".

This is not the case you are tired because of a reason and just like an athlete who has just finished a race you need some rest.  As well as the physical tiredness you may feel, although not realising it, mental exhaustion.

Do you find that after the feeling of anxiety you feel depression.  This may help explain the reason why.

Counselling: exploring fear and sadness   (Open University)

Fear and sadness are the most common problems that people seek counselling for. This 22-week course introduces you to the ways in which they have been understood: as 'mental health problems', by different forms of individual therapy, and by approaches that focus on the family, the social group, or society.

While the course is primarily academic, you’ll develop awareness of counselling skills, processes and techniques. The main sections of the course cover: historical developments in understanding fear and sadness, key individual counselling approaches, approaches that consider relationships and cultural aspects of human suffering, and the practice and evaluation of counselling.
